This month we welcome our local Millennium Volunteers group.... go on get involved! |
Get involved!
CSV Millennium Volunteers calls all 16-24 year olds
to volunteer in their local areas!
Thanks to Funkee Munkee for asking us to be a Guest Speaker.
Let’s first introduce ourselves. CSV Millennium Volunteers operates
throughout the whole of Bedfordshire, encouraging young people to volunteer and get national recognition through government-backed awards. One of our catchphrases is ‘build on what you’re into ‘– meaning we fully support your interests and encourage you to volunteer in something you will really enjoy.
You may not realise you already volunteer?! Perhaps you work with the Brownies, help at a kids club or an animal sanctuary – we recognise all your volunteering hours and will award you!
Perhaps you need to know the benefits of volunteering before you can decide?
Where do we start?!
Firstly there’s all the things you’ve probably heard before, that you’re making a positive contribution to your local community, but did you know you can learn new skills, try out different activities, and most importantly make your CV look great for whatever path you choose in the future!
By being a Millennium Volunteer you have the additional bonus of getting a nationally recognised award.
What are the awards?
We credit you with an award at 50,100 & 200 hours of volunteering.
All we ask is that you make a record of when and where you volunteer, using our funky CD calendars, and send them into us regularly.
In return, you not only get your awards, but monthly newsletters giving you ideas for volunteering, social activities and events.
What happens if you want to join us?
Well you’re in good company as we have over 600 volunteers in the county!
Once you contact us, we will arrange a one-to-one meeting (or group, if there are a few of you) where we will find out about you, and see how we can help you get volunteering.
We will give you ideas of how to get started and all the relevant details and contacts you need to get going. If you already know what type of voluntary work you want to do, we will support you.
Laura is our Project Worker in South Beds – she has lots of great ideas for ways you can start volunteering and is happy to help you! |

Once you are signed up as a Millennium Volunteer, if you already volunteer we can backdate you up to 50 hours of volunteering hours, which could mean you start off by getting your 50-hour volunteering award! We will make sure you have enough information to find voluntary work, and keep in touch to check how you’re getting on. You can also keep us up to date with your progress
and any ideas and suggestions you have – we like to chat with you!

YU-ACT
Yu-Act stands for Youth Action Community Team. It helps young people aged 16-25 years in Luton and South Bedfordshire get involved in local volunteering- whatever their experience or background. Yu-Act is run by national charity CSV and is funded by the Home Office Active Communities Fund.
The project was launched in April 2005 and Nicholas Mockridge is the full time project worker.
Our aim from the start was to engage young people to carry out short term, one off volunteering activities. There is a particular focus on young people who have crime issues or who are at the risk
of social exclusion.
Since the project was launched we have engaged over 100 young people in a number of activities including: Taking a group of Autistic children on a trip to Luton Town Football Club and a three day residential where Yu-Act volunteers carried out some Drug and Alcohol mentoring training.
We also have a number of projects coming up from September- December this year including, ITV’s Big Clean Up Day, another training session for our volunteers to learn more about the benefits of joining mentoring schemes and a celebration event.
